CONTINUING EDUCATION

ContinuingEducation2-SmallRobert Smalls Family Center is a twenty-room, multi-functional facility located near the historic district of Cheraw, SC. The center's goal is to offer a holistic approach to assisting the families of Chesterfield County by providing a variety of quality services. Chesterfield County Adult Education and Family Literacy programs are both housed at Robert Smalls Family Center.

We serve a wide and varied population; therefore, RSFC strives to provide a flexible schedule for its students by offering both morning and evening classes. Among the courses offered at the center are Math and Basic Computer Technology, Pre-G.E.D. and G.E.D. training and testing, Renters 101, Parenting Workshop, Worldwide Interactive Network (W.I.N.), English as a Second Language (E.S.L.), and Work Keys.

ContinuingEducation-SmallParticipants in the Workshop Investment Act (W.I.A.) are able to come to Robert Smalls Family Center and gain the skills necessary to pass the Work Keys test. They can practice W.I.N. online either at home or in the computer lab at RSFC and prepare for the Work Keys test, which is given at our facility. Passing the Work Keys test enables participants to get industry jobs.

Robert Smalls Family Center has the unique advantage of the "traveling classroom" bus, which allows the center to reach individuals who otherwise may not be able to take part in the classes. Other services offered at RSFC are the Lion's Club Food Bank, Vocational Rehabilitation, and literacy training with Volunteers in Service to America (V.I.S.T.A.). The center provides free child care for the children of its students, staff, and volunteers.
